Sky Blue Colin Stein

In an unlikely encounter this time last year we reported that Sky Blue fan Tony Slatter had bumped into a former Scottish international Sky Blue striking hero Colin Stein a long way from his home! Thanks to CCFPA’s vice chairman Billy Bell for then spotting Tony’s Facebook posting which we reproduce here.

Tony was delighted to spot the now 77 year old former Sky Blue and CCFPA member in Tony’s ‘local’ in Thailand – the Sportsman Sports Bar in the capital city, Bangkok.

Colin knocked in 28 top flight Sky Blue goals in his three seasons at Highfield Road and just short (98) of a century of appearances for CCFC. Signed by City for £140k from top Scottish side Rangers in October 1972 Colin returned to the same Scottish club for £80k in March 1975 and, apart from a loan spell at Kilmarnock in October 1977, the feared goalgetter did not play for another first class club before hanging up his boots in close season 1978. Colin earned 21 full caps for his country four of them whilst with the Sky Blues!

Colin has been back to see us in Coventry, including at Legends Days, a few times in the last decade or so the last time at Legends Day 2018 prior to the COVID pandemic making such reunions problematical.

Great to see the veteran still looking good in 2023, presumably enjoying his holiday in the Far East. We are sure he and Tony grabbed a good chat before parting company! Although Colin had to pull out of our fairly recent Legends Day 2024 we look forward to seeing Colin back in Cov at the CBS Arena in the new 2024-25 Championship season to come.

Thanks to CCFPA’s Mike Young for sourcing the other images.
