Members News: Listen To ‘Smithy’ On Jim & Claudio’s Latest Sky Blue History Podcast!
CCFPA’s (recently stepped down) Chairman Jim Brown, author of many books on CCFC and the club’s official historian, has for many years offered Sky Blue fans a roughly weekly blog about all things Sky Blue, often featured in the Coventry Telegraph as well as publicised on this site. The blog can be found here.
Jim’s latest venture (this time online), in collaboration with log-time Sky Blue fan Claudio Cardellino, has kept up with the newer media communication technologies and the pair have been running a podcast launched this year which can be found via Spotify and various other social media outlets.
The link for the latest show looks at period of Sky Blue development post our 1987 F.A.Cup Wembley win, from season 1988-89 (with the late, great John Sillett at the helm) through the eyes of special guest CCFPA member, former Sky Blue mercurial winger David Smith. Just click on the image below to listen:-
To remind you David, from a YTS apprentice in 1984 became a star of Sky Blues sides in the late 1980s and early 1990s making many a goal from accurate left wing crosses for the likes of Keith Houchen, Cyrille Regis and David Speedie (all fellow Association members) as well as weighing in with nineteen goals of his own in a total of 182 first team appearances for CCFC. He moved on to Birmingham City in March 1993 then his career took in West Bromwich Albion in 1994, Grimsby Town in 1998 and Swansea City in 2002. David finally hung up his boots at the end of the 2002-03 season to move to previous club, the Mariners, in an administrative capacity becoming a long-term servant at Grimsby Town latterly as Commercial Manager. He retired after 24 years in September 2022.
‘Smithy’ has been our ‘special guest’ several times at Sky Blues’ home games and has taken part over previous seasons in our major annual reunions Golf Day and Legends Day.
The discussions between Jim and Claudio (and fellow contributors) are well worth a listen for fans of all the Sky Blue generations and David always has a great insider view of the world of football so his reminiscences of his Sky Blue days are definitely worth a listen!!
PS There should be a video version of the series soon which can be found on YouTube.
