Posted by · Leave a Comment

The Association recently reported the very sad news that former Coventry City player and Association member Vernon Griffiths had passed away at the age of 74.

Birmingham-born Vernon was on West Brom’s books as a 15-year old but was signed by Coventry City in 1954. He made 17 first team appearances at wing-half between 1957 and 1959. He later played for Rugby Town. Vernon, a popular member of the Former Players Association had been suffering from cancer for some time.

His funeral will take place at 1.30pm on Tuesday 10 May at Lodge Hill Cemetery, Weoley Park Road, Selly Oak,  Birmingham B29 5AA.  The family have told us that any former colleague, fan or friend will be welcome to pay their respects.

Vernon will be greatly missed by all at CCFPA. The Association hopes to be represented at the ceremony.  A full appreciation of Vernon’s playing career will appear on this website in due course.
