John & family in Coventry last March ready for the postponed ‘Legends Day’

You may remember that sixties Sky Blue striker John Tudor and his wife Anne flew in from the States to join us at Legends Day 2018 last March and actually got to the Ricoh (right) to receive the devastating news that the match had been iced off (and Legends Day was eventually postponed to May when sadly they couldn’t return).

Well the couple are giving it another go and flying in again especially to join in (in association with the club) CCFPA’s grand annual reunion of former players on March 23rd. Fingers crossed the weather will be kinder this time! Though Derbyshire born and bred and well travelled in his former professional football career John has lived in Minnesota USA for many years.

John in the Sky Blue

From humble beginnings as a youngster at Ilkeston Town John joined ‘the Sky Blue Revolution’ in late 1965 turning professional on 24/01/1966. He made 77 appearances in total for CCFC scoring 15 goals before moving to Sheffield United in November 1968 (85 appearances-37 goals). He hit the headlines at his next club Newcastle Utd (where he became part of a feared striking duo with Malcolm Macdonald) and from January 1971 clocked up a further 187 games for the Toon Army and contributed 56 strikes.

John in Cov having learned Legends Day is off last March.

Leaving St James’ Park for Stoke City in 1976 John wound down his career with KAA Gent in Belgium before a knee injury forced him to hang up his boots in 1978. A period of UK coaching followed with the likes of North Shields, Gateshead and Bedlington Terriers before retiring to become a publican in Bedlington and then Ilkeston from 1983. Moving to the USA John became Director of Youth Development for Tonka United  and CC United from the 1990s until retiring as a  full time community based ‘soccer’ coach around eight years ago.

John will join more than 40 other former Sky Blues who have already confirmed they will be attending Legends Day 2019 including some who played with John at the City and we have already announced many of the attendees and hope to release the full list on Tuesday next. Keep checking back on this site for further news as the big day approaches.

The club are offering also  offering dining packages so you can share a pre-match lunch with our visitors and watch the match in comfort.

CCFC’s Commercial Director Tynan Scope says,  “Our brilliant Legends Day package is just £59.00+vat per person.
