John Williams Sees Sky Blues Draw with Posh

John Williams, nicknamed the ‘Flying Postman’ for his blistering speed at the Rumbelows Cup Sprint Challenge in 1992 and subsequently for the Sky Blues’ forward line, was CCFPA’s special guest last Saturday at the Club’s 1-1 draw with Peterborough United (7th April 2012).

John did his stint around the Ricoh’s corporate areas before and during the game spent time on BBC CWR, was warmly applauded by the half-time crowd and gave as good as he got with the Association’s Billy Bell on the stage at Lady G’s in the Casino after the game. He is pictured (left) being interviewed in front of appreciative supporters in the Ricoh’s Legends Lounge by CCFPA committee member Frank Pritchard.

John said he had an interesting day at the Ricoh and watched an exciting game even though the result was a little disappointing for the Sky Blues who desperately needed the full 3 points in their fight against relegation and were pegged back from a 2-1 lead to draw 2-2 by the end.

We were also sorry to hear that John is still having trouble from the leg injury he received when playing for CCFC (and the Association) in the Midland Masters Tournament at the NIA in Birmingham last year.  John was always a popular player for the Club and continues to run his ‘Flying Postman Productions’ company which arranges Sportsman’s Dinners and the like in the region and the UK.  Thanks John for visiting us again in the Ricoh and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

John also hopes to appear on Sunday 15th April at the Charity Day organised in aid of Acorns (local children’s hospice) at Leamington FC’s ground (Harbury Lane, Leamington) on Sunday 15th April next. A CCFC Old Boys Team made up largely from CCFPA members (and containing a number of former players from the 1987 F.A.Cup winning squad) will take on a Pottertons Old Boys Select team. Kick off is 2.15pm. Admission is £3. (See separate news item for additional details)
