Blast From The Past: On This Day (12th Oct). Is This CCFC’s Worst Bogey Day?

Posted by · Leave a Comment

Just a quirky fact from the Club’s history but as far as we can ascertain October 12th in each relevant season of CCFC’s history is certainly not a propitious date for the club. Opponents can usually be relied upon to get a draw or maximum points from any fixture with us on this date! Good job the date for this season at St Andrews falls during an international break and last season was moved from Saturday 12th to Sunday 13th!

Of course, the way the calendar unfolds each year means that football matches do not fall frequently on this date. However, since the club converted from Singers FC to become Coventry City FC in 1898 throughout all the leagues the first team has played in right up to this season we can trace only three wins for the club on this particular date!

In 120 years, three wins (highlighted) out of 15 attempts (nine of which were at home) in eight different footballing divisions is, truly, an awful record. Perhaps budding historians out there can look at other dates in the calendar to see if there is a worse one!
